Chungnam Technopark promotes ‘Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle parts commercialization and industrial base development project’
President Moon Jae-in attended the ‘Hydrogen Economy Performance and Vision of a Hydrogen Leading Country Report’ event in October, and the government and related representative companies announced a vision with the main goal of hydrogen being ‘the first energy led by Korea’ in the future.
Based on this, Korea is slowly making efforts to become a leading country in the hydrogen-centered era, such as winning the ‘World’s Three Crowns’ for two consecutive years in ‘supplying hydrogen cars, hydrogen charging stations, and fuel cells’. In addition, private companies have announced a large-scale investment plan of more than 43 trillion won by 2030 to expand the future hydrogen economy.
Through a preliminary feasibility study with Chungnam Province from 2016, Chungnam Techno Park, by understanding this global market trend and the government’s policy direction in advance, won the ‘Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle parts commercialization and industrial base development project’ for 5 years ( In 2017-’21), 18 hydrogen vehicle parts R&D tasks and hydrogen fuel electric vehicle parts test and evaluation center were established to develop domestic hydrogen electric vehicles.
The hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCEV) parts test and evaluation center (hereinafter the parts center) inside the Automobile Parts R&D Support Center (10 Sucheol-gil, Yesan-eup) in Chungnam Technopark is 21,719 m² (about 6,700 pyeong), and is equipped with test and evaluation equipment ( 21 units of 15 types), a hydrogen supply facility, a sample storage room, and a test preparation room.

When the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest free trade agreement (FTA), goes into effect in January next year, it is expected that the export routes for Korean companies will be wide open.
Exports are expected to become more active in the ASEAN market as tariff barriers on petrochemicals, machinery, and consumer goods, as well as Korea’s main export items such as automobile parts and steel, are significantly lowered.
